Award ceremony
The awards ceremony takes place in Siena at the Teatro dei Rozzi, Siena theatre. On this day, the final Saturday of October, the Siena International Photographer of the Year and the award-winning images come out. Following the awards ceremony, the "Beyond the Lens" exhibition opens its doors in Siena. A yearbook presenting all prize-winning entries is published annually in two languages (Italian and English).
Competition
The winning images are selected by a professional jury (including photographers from National Geographic and the BBC) from among thousands of entries (approximately 50,000, according to the SIPAContest team), received from all over the world.
Since 2015, the grand prize has been selected from among the winning images of the categories and has been awarded to a single image in adult and young competition respectively. The photographer, aged 20 and under, submitting the best image receives the title, "The Young Siena Photographer of the Year", while the winner of the best image over 20 years of age becomes "The Siena Photographer of the Year".
The winners of the main categories are invited to attend the gala to compete for the main award of Siena Photographer of the Year. The winner of the main award receives EUR1,500 worth of photography equipment and the Pangea Prize.
An exhibition of the winning and honorable mention images, as well as Remarkable Artworks, named "Beyond the Lens", is located each year at the exhibition space of the former distillery "Lo Stellino".
A book of winning entries and runners-up has been published each year since 2015.
